SCRIPTURES: ISAIAH 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called WONDERFUL, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ISAIAH 29:14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a WONDER: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
ISAIAH 25:1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done WONDERFUL THINGS; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
THOUGHT: The Hebrew word PELE is most often used in the Old Testament to describe the works or acts of God. It is also used as a name for God in Isaiah 9:6. The idea of this word is that the presence of God and His acts are so unusual, extraordinary, overwhelming and magnificent, that you are left awestruck and filled with WONDER. WONDER comes over you as a result of the unusual and extraordinary occurrences, such as the plagues of Egypt, the wilderness provision and deliverance, the entrance into the promised land, as well as in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Several times you read that Jesus’ hearers were astonished at His teaching (See examples at Matthew 7:28; 22:33; Mark 1:22; 10:24; Luke 4:32). They were filled with WONDER and AWE at the words and the works of GOD in Jesus Christ.
While the miracles in the Old and New Testaments are marvelous, the GREATEST WONDER is the forgiveness of sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. Here you make an exchange that happens in the earth and in the heavens – your sin for His righteousness. This gives us all pause to give God praise and worship for the WONDERFUL thing He has done. It even evokes awe among the angels (1 PETER 1:12). Don’t get too busy to overlook or forget the MARVELOUS work that God is doing in your life. There is even more because God desires to continue to work these WONDERS in bringing you help, hope, peace, provision, healing, strength and more. I say live such a life that you can stay in amazement at what God is doing.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father and MARVELOUS LORD GOD: Great praise and thanks are due to You for what You have done and are doing. It truly is a WONDER that You have redeemed us from the bondage of sin. Help me to never forget the GREAT WONDER You are. Help me to live close to You in such a way that I can continue to see Your GREAT WONDERS in my life and the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
