INTERCESSION FOR THE COVENANT OF AMERICA – A CITY SET ON A HILL:
SCRIPTURES: Matthew 5:13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Psalm 144:15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.
THOUGHT: At its founding America was set to be “a city on a hill”, a beacon of hope to the rest of the world, according to Matthew 5:13-15, and according to the prayer made by the Puritan leaders bringing groups of settlers to these shores. They called upon God promising to serve Him so that His purposes could be served through America much like His original plan for Israel.
God has blessed this nation over these centuries since its founding and it has been a blessing to many other nations of the world. It truly has been a beacon of hope. However, in recent history, we have wandered away from our commitment to God and we have seen the results in the many disasters and crisis situations we have encountered. It is time for us to repent, renounce our sin and turn back to God.
PRAYER: LORD, America is a nation rooted in Christian covenant with You. We have violated the covenant, so we join with our brothers and sisters across America and around the world who repent for our sin and renounce the wave of liberalism and anti-God socialism that has taken root.
As Your Word says in Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” We see the reproach both nationally and internationally. We come to You LORD, to do a work in this country that only You can do.
LORD, We pray for the peace and reconciliation of the people of our nation. Let righteousness rule the nation.
We ask that You calm the tensions of our people. Give us leaders who will lead in righteousness, standing against corruption, violence against innocent ones, and murder.
We plead for the raising up of righteous leaders who can bring the various sides together, give confidence to the people, root out the corruption and usher in an era of peace. In Jesus’ Name.
Turn us around LORD, that we as a nation turn back to the source from which we came. Let it be a Sovereign work of Your own hand to turn this nation around. In Jesus’ Name. AMEN!
