REPENTING FOR AND RENOUNCING SYSTEMIC INJUSTICE AND POLICIES THAT HAVE LED TO INSTITUTIONAL POVERTY, CRIME AND RACISM AND ANY PERSONAL PARTICIPATION I MAY HAVE HAD:
SCRIPTURES: Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
1 John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
THOUGHTS: Some policies, whether unjust in themselves or unjustly applied, have led to a great distrust between people and leaders, between people and police and between the races.
There is a proliferation of social concerns and issues. The history of the status quo has brought us to systemic poverty and hopelessness in many cities, along with crime as a way of life, an increase in gun crime, substance abuse, murders, broken families, a hostile political climate, a hostile racial climate and much more.
Few of our political solutions have been broadly effective and our greatest need is to turn back to God and His Word to find the solutions He has already prescribed.
PRAYER: LORD, I repent for all participation I have had in marginalizing or demonizing those that are not like myself. I recognize that the root of this is greed, lust and hatred for one another. LORD, teach me to love as You love. According to Your Word the greatest of all commands for me to follow is to love You and to love others.
PRAYER FOR OUR NATION:
LORD, I interceed for our nation. I see the anger, the hurt, the pain, the division, the crime, the fear, the lives being senselessly lost and the hopelessness that has proliferated in our society.
As a nation, we have wandered far away from You. LORD, I join with many others in repenting for turning our backs on You and in renouncing the evils of our society and the evils of our policies that has developed into selfishness, polarization and racism.
We pray for redemption, recovery and healing for marginalized communities and for love and reconciliation among our diverse people.
LORD, teach us to take time to listen, to love and to have compassion for one another. In Jesus’ Name.
Turn us around LORD, that we as a nation turn back to the source from which we came. Let it be a Sovereign work of Your own hand to turn this nation around. In Jesus’ Name. AMEN!
