SCRIPTURES: Genesis 16:13-14 “And she [Hagar] called the name of the LORD [JEHOVAH] that spake unto her, Thou God seest me [JEHOVAH EL ROI]: for she said, ‘Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?’ 14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi [Beer-lahai-roi meaning WELL OF THE LIVING ONE WHO SEES ME]…”. Psalms 139:7-12 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
THOUGHT: JEHOVAH EL ROI refers not only to God’s ability to see you, but know you intimately and to know what is going on with you. He knows your thoughts, your feelings, the motivations of your heart, your strengths and areas needing improvement. God knows all about your trials and about those who have treated you unfairly. God knows when your boldness is a cover for your fear and when your reticence is not fear at all but a caution to be sure you are doing the right thing. The name EL ROI also speaks to God’s Omnipresence and His Omniscience as in Psalm 139 above: “Whither shall I flee from thy presence?” Since JEHOVAH EL ROI knows all about you He is the One you can relate to and who is willing to listen and will not be shocked at your honest prayers, just like He did in the story in Genesis 16 above.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, JEHOVAH EL ROI – LORD GOD WHO SEES ME: You know the entire story of my life because You have seen it all and know it all. You have seen my injustices and injustices against me. You know how I have been affected and how I have affected others. Forgive me and continue to help me to choose forgiveness of others. LORD, You know my past, present and future. I realize that I may have a distorted view of some of my past, that I may excuse myself and blame others in the present and that I have an imperfect knowledge of the future. Learning and now knowing all this I surrender my life to You, trusting that as You see past, present and future that You wil protect and prepare the path that I must travel, In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
