JEHOVAH EL ELYON: JEHOVAH – THE MOST HIGH GOD OR THE EXTREMELY-EXALTED, SOVEREIGN, HIGH GOD

SCRIPTURES: Genesis 14:22-23 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the MOST HIGH GOD [JEHOVAH EL ELYON], the possessor of heaven and earth (See chapter context; see verses 18-20 for additional EL ELYON mentions). Psalm 7:17 I will praise the LORD [JEHOVAH] according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD MOST HIGH [JEHOVAH ELYON]. Psalm 97:9 For thou, LORD, art high [JEHOVAH ELYON] above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. Psalms 78:35 And they remembered that God [ʼĒlōhīm] was their rock, and the High God [ʼĒl ʻElyōn] their redeemer.” In Numbers 24:16 Balaam “…knew the knowledge of the Most High [ELYON]. King Nebuchadnezzar recognized that it was EL ELYON who was able to save the men from the fiery furnace, Daniel 3:26. (See also: Deut 32:8; 2 Samuel 22:14; Psalm 18:13; Ps 21:7)

THOUGHT: The word “Elyon” is an adjective describing such as: the ascent to the highest point, as in “the high places” of idol worship that were not destroyed in 2 Kings 15:35; the height and prominence of one’s position as in Psalm 89:27; or God’s plan for the prominence of Israel as a nation above all nations of the earth, in Deut 28:1. Elyon denotes the uppermost, the highest place or superlative prominence.

Adding JEHOVAH to ELYON expresses the recognition of JEHOVAH’s highest supremacy. When EL and ELYON are together, scholars say the result can literally be translated THE EXTREMELY-EXALTED, SOVEREIGN, HIGH GOD. Everything you have learned about the true God has taught you that He is more exalted, greater, higher, mightier, more powerful and more worthy of worship and praise than anyone or anything in His creation. He truly is JEHOVAH EL ELYON, GOD MOST HIGH AND MOST HIGH GOD as translated in the Bible and also THE EXTREMELY-EXALTED, SOVEREIGN, HIGH GOD as in a literal translation. Your Assignment for the next few days: Read Psalm 103:1-22 slowly, taking in all that you can learn about JEHOVAH EL ELYON, the MOST HIGH GOD. Then read Psalm 145:1-21.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, JEHOVAH EL ELYON, THE MOST HIGH GOD: I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. (from Psalm 145:1-3)

It is a joy to know that You are the Supreme Ruler over all and that You are the Most High God, Holy and Righteous, yet full of Mercy and Grace towards me. In recognition of Your Supremacy, I humble myself before You and ask for Your continued forgiveness, mercy and grace over my life. Please continue to guide me to come to know more about You and to follow You, walking with You in all my ways. I surrender my life in service to Your Divine Majesty, In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

About Pastor Lawrence A. Fox

We believe that along with many others, we are called by Jesus Christ to engage in a world-wide effort to reach those in and out of the Christian world with the message of full salvation and healing in His name. This effort starts in our own hearts through the power of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. It then finds growth and nourishment in the fellowship of the local church and fans out through every believer’s home, in our neighborhoods, with our relatives, in the workplace and in every human interaction that we engage in on this side of eternity. We are excited to be ambassadors for God in bringing His message to a lost and dying world. II Corinthians 5:18-20 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
