HONORING OUR PARENTS AND ELDERS:
SCRIPTURES: Ephesians 6:2-3 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
See also: Exodus 20:12 & Matthew 15:4.
Proverbs 1:8-9 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
1 Peter 2:17 “… Fear God, Honor the king.”
1 Peter 5:5-6 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
THOUGHTS: Love and honor shown to parents is considered as intertwined with love and honor to God, because parents, along with God, are involved in the conception and birth of a child. In addition, honor of and appropriate submission to parents and to God translate into honor for and submission to all levels of authority in one’s life.
Dishonor turns to disrespect and rebellion, as we see in our nation and world today.
Are you rebellious towards authorities or worse, towards God in any way?
Do you need to repent for ways in which you have dishonored or are dishonoring parents, God, or any authorities in your life?
Do you understand the proper application of the difference between honor, respect and submission to authority and obedience to authority? If you have questions or are not sure, let’s talk about it.
PRAYER: LORD, forgive me for disrespecting and dishonoring You, my parents and others You have placed in authority over me. Forgive me where I have missed the mark in any way. Please help me to live a life of honor towards my parents, all authorities and You.
LORD, we see a major wave of rebellion in our nation and world today. We pray for a return to the traditional Biblical values that were the foundation of this nation. We intercede for a transformation in our relationships in this land. In Jesus Name. AMEN!
