40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR NATION – DAY 17 10/10/2020

WORSHIPPING JESUS CHRIST: LORD OF THE SABBATH:

SCRIPTURE: MARK 2:27-28 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.

THOUGHTS: Sabbath means rest as in ceasing from our labors. Man is not made for rest, but rest is made for man. The goal is to provide rest from our work and to open the door for extended time of reading, study, worship and fellowship. This command is the basis of the employer giving employees a day off.

Do you take advantage of the command to rest found in Exodus 20:8-11, by turning it into opportunities for extra sleep, peaceful relaxation and extended, uninterrupted time with God?

Is this an area that requires further commitment on your part?

PRAYER: LORD, You gave us rest. There remains a rest for the people of God (see Hebrews 4:9). I plan to take advantage of the rest You have given by setting aside time for bodily rest, for study, for prayer, reflection, meditation and worship. I ask for Your help in my endeavors to obey and be blessed by Your commandment. In Jesus name, AMEN!

40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR NATION – DAY 16 10/09/2020

LOVING OUR ENEMIES AND DOING GOOD TO THOSE WHO PERSECUTE US:

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:43-45 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

THOUGHT: Today, I would like to hear from you on the topic of today. Jesus says it all in this statement about how to treat people who are negative and hostile towards us. I summarize it: “LOVING… BLESSING… DOING GOOD… AND PRAYING FOR…”

Please go to http://www.thhmi.com and find today’s article and post your response, comment, observation or question regarding Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 5:43-45.

Send me a personal message if you need to.

His instructions are straightforward but we clearly see in our families, at our jobs, in our churches, in our halls of congress and around our nation, that we are having trouble obeying His command to love, bless, and do good.

Let’s talk about “LOVING… BLESSING… DOING GOOD… AND PRAYING FOR…”:

Have you implemented these words? If so explain.

Have you had trouble implementing these words? Explain in general terms.

How have you overcome and submitted to Jesus and His ‘ Word in this area?

Do you have any questions or comments about “LOVING… BLESSING… DOING GOOD… AND PRAYING FOR…” those who hate you and persecute you?

Jesus said that offense would come, so it is common to go through things with each other. Do you need help?

PRAYER: LORD, I surrender my emotions, my hurts and my pains in my relationships. LORD, it is my desire to walk after Your instruction and right now I choose to do so.

I forgive _________ for how he/she has treated me. I purpose to love, bless, do good and pray for him/her.

I ask Your forgiveness for harboring resentment. Empower me with the freedom to love, bless, do good and pray for others, In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

40 Days of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Fifteen 10/08/2020

COMPASSIONATE CARE FOR ORPHANS, WIDOWS, THE POOR & OPPRESSED:

SCRIPTURES: James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. 1 John 3:17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Psalms 82:3-4 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. [4] Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

PRAYER: LORD, we pray for the poor, the widows, the orphans and the oppressed. We know that You care for them and that we here on earth are Your voice and hands to help them. Fill us with hearts of mercy, love and compassion to motivate us to reach out to help and to heal.

We pray also for an increase to the work this nation does at home and around the world to help the poor, the vulnerable, the neglected, the sick, the suffering, and the oppressed, through its various governmental aid programs, it’s non-governmental aid programs and Christian missionary aid programs. LORD, bless and enlarge these compassionate works.

Touch the hearts of those with means to give to causes which help the suffering in our nation and around the world. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

PRAYER FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA: LORD, please touch President Donald Trump, his wife Melania and all those in his inner circle impacted by the COVID19 disease. Touch their bodies and bring them to health. Give wisdom, skill and discretion to the physicians attending to him. Open the president’s heart and the hearts of his family and the presidential circle to receive the full salvation of Christ in truth. Give him the wisdom and motivation to use his words and actions to bring healing to our nation, In the Name of Jesus, AMEN!

40 Days of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Fourteen 10/07/2020

HONOR AND RESPECT FOR PERSONS IN AUTHORITY AND LEADERSHIP:

THOUGHT: All leadership authority comes from God, (Romans 13:1) so how we respond to those over us lead not only back to them but also back to God the ultimate leader who set them in authority. We are to honor and respect our leaders and obey them as they guide us in keeping with the Word of God, but we are not to worship them or blindly obey them if they themselves go astray from God’s Word.

SCRIPTURES AND THOUGHTS: Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

The home is the beginning of where we learn to honor authority. This should transition to leaders at church, school, employment and society as it relates to police and those responsible for maintaining order.

RESPONDING TO LEADERS: The Scriptures are clear in how we respond to authorities. Only a few of them are listed here for your review:

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; [13] And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

ADMONITIONS TO LEADERS: The Scriptures are also very clear on the responsibility of leaders to be an example and to lead in humility and truth:

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Matthew 20:26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Proverbs 16:12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

Proverbs 29:4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

Jeremiah 23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

PRAYER: LORD, I recognize that You are our Creator and our ultimate authority. I recognize that all authority comes from You and my response to all authority goes to You. Forgive me where I have missed the mark and for my inappropriate attitudes to parents, teachers, law keepers, and other authorities that You have allowed in my life. I am learning to give appropriate respect and honor to leaders for their title and responsibility. Help me to respond appropriately when I do not agree with leaders and when leaders are doing what I believe is wrong. LORD, give us wise and compassionate leaders, to lead us in truth and righteousness, In Jesus name, AMEN!

40 Days Of Prayer For Our Nation: Day Thirteen 10/06/2020

LOVING, HONORING AND RESPECTING EACH OTHER:

SCRIPTURES: Romans 12:3-5; 16-18 [3] For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. [4] For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: [5] So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. [16] Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. [17] Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. [18] If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. (See also Romans 12:1-18 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27).

THOUGHTS: The twelfth chapter of both Romans and 1 Corinthians tell us that we all need each other. These chapters help us to understand that we really cannot get along in a healthy way without each other. God did not make us to be individual units separate and distinct from one another. He made us to be co-dependent upon one another. Some are strong in one area and weak in other areas. Another is strong in the areas of another’s weakness. By working together we can complement each other and work with God to build something greater than ourselves.

PRAYER: LORD, help us to see how we can help and bless others by the use of the gifts and skills You have given us and at the same time help us to see how we can be benefitted and blessed by others. LORD, help us as a nation to turn back to God and help the various groups in our nation to see that we all need each other to make our nation better.

40 Days of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Twelve 10/05/2020

WE ARE ALL CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD: Let us strive to love and respect each other recognizing that all people of all races, ethnicities and countries have value.

SCRIPTURES: Acts 17:24a & 26aGod that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth…” [26] “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth…” Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Ephesians 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

THOUGHTS: An appeal is made in 1 John 4:7 above, “Beloved, let us love one another.” We are all created by God for His glory and therefore we should honor and respect God and one another in keeping with the honor and respect that we wish for ourselves. There is such beauty in diversity. As we consider the similarities and differences of each other there is so much that we can learn from each other as we humbly co-exist. Also, God sees each one of such value that Jesus shed His Blood just for that one.

There is so much hurt, pain, anger and bitterness in our nation because of the injustices of the past. We must learn to turn from the bitterness and respond in a spirit of love and acceptance of each other in order to bring healing to our nation.

PRAYER: LORD, Our nation is in chaos because we walked away from Your truths and Your ways. We honor You as our LORD and we ask your forgiveness for our wrong thoughts, wrong motives, wrong words and wrong behaviors. Cleanse our hearts of hatred for others, help us that we may forgive one another and give us Your Spirit of Love and Peace with others. Help us to turn back to You, Your Word and Your Ways.

LORD, we take this moment to intercede on behalf of our nation. We realize the issue relates to how we have treated one another and how we continue to treat one another. The rhetoric of politics and media are damaging and are causing hatred and violence on our land. We renounce these evil schemes and pray for an intervention into the public discourse and leadership ranks to bring about a radical change in our nation. Without Your intervention it seems that things will only get worse. LORD, move in our midst, we pray, In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

40 Days Of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Eleven 10/04/2020

GOD OUR FATHER: HALLOWING AND REVERENCING HIS NAME:

SCRIPTURES: Exodus 20:7 says: “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Leviticus 19:12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

THOUGHTS: This week we will be considering the Third and Fourth Commandments which involve “not taking the LORD’S name in vain” and “prioritizing time to rest from our labor, learn of Him and worship Him”.

Thinking of reverence for God and reasons why we must reverence Him brings electricity to mind. Electricity is a powerful tool for good in our lives. However, it is only good when we respect, honor and obey it’s laws. To disobey those laws could bring harm, destruction of property and even death.

In the Old Testament, God taught the people the laws for hallowing, reverencing and respecting Him, His Holiness and His Power. Like the example of electricity, to disrespect God or to be casual about our relationship in coming to Him could have devastating and even deadly consequences. We are commanded not to take His name in vain. This means that we should not blaspheme His name in our speech, in using His name to commit evil practices, or in pretending to serve Him but making no effort to do so.

PRAYER: LORD, I repent for missing the mark in the misuse of Your name, for calling Your name in a cavalier way, and for taking Your name while not allowing the power and blessing of Your name to be manifested in my life. I repent for not making the time to listen to You, to learn of You and be changed by that relationship. Create in me a clean heart and a right spirit of obedience to Your Will, Your Word and Your Way. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

ADDITIONAL SCRIPTURES: Psalms 50:14-16 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: [15] And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. [16] But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

40 Days Of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Ten 10/03/2020

ABIDE IN CHRIST – MAKING TIME: IT’S LIFE OF DEATH

SCRIPTURES: John 15:1-4 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

John 15:7,9,11 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you…. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love…. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

THOUGHT: I am sure you have seen a branch broken off of a tree and left to rot. A simpler example is grass cuttings when the lawn is mowed. Disconnected branches dry up, while grass clippings dry up and turn from their deep green to a dirty brown color. Jesus is teaching us that if we do not remain in constant contact with Him as our source then we will dry up just like the grass and the branch.

Receiving Christ in our hearts is not a one time affair. It is a daily experience that we have to plan for and execute diligently. He is the Bread of Life and if we come to Him and sit with Him on a regular basis, we will not hunger or thirst (see John 6:38). This has to do with our provision and our satisfaction. He will provide for our needs and our hearts will not pine for the things we do not have as He is the great possession.

Jesus further described that His Words must abide in us (see John 15:7). We must always be concerned with what He has to say about our attitudes and actions. His Word is the governor for our lives and not the word or ways of the world. To know His Word, we must spend time with our Bibles and patiently in His presence. When we do this we can receive of His love and be filled with The Joy of the LORD. (John 15:9 & 11)

Rick Warren, a prolific Christian writer and pastor defines The Joy of the LORD this way: “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.”

PRAYER: LORD Jesus, I make the choice to ABIDE IN YOU. I plan to make time for You on a regular and consistent basis and to spend more time hearing, reading, considering and applying Your Words. Give me the wisdom and the insight to hear deeply what You are saying and the courage to apply Your sayings to my life. I desire to bear fruit in my life, and to live in Your love and Your joy, and make an impact in my sphere of influence and in my nation. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

40 Days Of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Nine 10/02/2020

ALLOWING THE PERFECT LOVE OF GOD TO CAST OUT FEAR:

SCRIPTURES: 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

THOUGHT: We all know when we are afraid. Fear may be associated with undeserved treatment and also with just punishment for personal behavior or sin. Fear may be related to difficulties in our personal life here on earth and also to the anticipation of eternal judgment for sin and rebellion. The Good News is that the PERFECT LOVE of GOD through the Spirit of Jesus Christ delivers us from fear.

Perfect love for the LORD God causes us to honor, exalt, reverence and obey Him. Pursuing and perfecting love in our relationship with God causes us to have a healthy fear which is called The Reverential Fear of the LORD. The Bible tells us a lot about The Fear of the LORD:

“And unto man he said, Behold, The Fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28 “The Fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.” Proverbs 15:33 “By humility and The Fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” Proverbs 22:4

The Fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:27 “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by The Fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” Proverbs 16:6 “The Fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.” Proverbs 19:23 “The Fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” Proverbs 8:13

As we pursue a love relation with God we find our reverence for Him growing and our love and compassion for others growing also. We do not fear because we have trust and confidence in our God who loves us and gave His Son to shed His blood for us. Perfect love casts out all fear.

PRAYER: LORD, there is so much fear, anxiety, anger, bitterness, confusion and strife on the earth and in our nation. Starting with me I ask that You help me to build perfect love and reverence for You so that I can be a vessel of love in my family, my community and in my nation. LORD, I turn back to You asking that You spread your perfect love among the Body of Christ, the community of your people, so that it may be set loose across this nation to bring peace and joy in our nation in turning back to You. Bring Peace, Transformation, and Reconciliation with each other and with You. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

40 Days of Prayer for Our Nation: Day Eight 10/01/2020

GROWING IN OUR LOVE FOR GOD, FOR WHO HE IS:

SCRIPTURES: Deut 30:19-20a I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20a That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days…”

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Matt 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

THOUGHT: God has powerfully declared His Love for us in that He first created us and when the human race rebelled of His authority, He made a way for redemption by Jesus Christ and thereby reuniting us with Him. All of this was because of His love.

QUESTIONS: Have I surrendered to the love of God? I what ways may I be spurning God’s love? Since God has so loved me, how can I better show God’s love to my community and my nation?

ADDITIONAL SCRIPTURES: 1 John 4:7-13 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.
