RECOGNIZING & REPENTING FOR OUR OWN FAILURES IN PARENTING & OTHER LEADERSHIP ROLES:
SCRIPTURES: Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Colossians 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
THOUGHT: We noted yesterday that: “honor of and appropriate submission to parents and to God translate into honor for and submission to all levels of authority in one’s life”.
Therefore, we see that these admonitions of Scripture to fathers, found in Ephesians and Colossians about misuse of authority, relate to all leadership roles. As leaders in various spheres of life we must examine ourselves truthfully, recognize any faults and repent to God and those affected.
PRAYER: LORD, Give me the courage to honestly look at my life, my children, my family, my friendships, my job, etc, to see where I may be overbearing, rude, angry, impatient or otherwise inappropriate in my relationships. I desire to transform my relationships and ask You to help me to open my eyes and to turn away from provoking anger, hurt or pain.
LORD, we place before You those in leadership position in our nation. Give them the integrity, humility and courage to honestly look at their leadership and relationships with each other and with their constituents. LORD, open their eyes to truthfully see right and wrong according to Your value system. Give them strength to admit when they are on the wrong path according to Your standards or have not handled matters in the best interest of the people of the nation. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
ADDITIONAL SCRIPTURE: Genesis 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
