EL QANNA: THE LORD WHO IS JEALOUS FOR YOU Part 2 – A CONSUMING FIRE

SCRIPTURES: Deuteronomy 4:23-24 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. 24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire. (See also Deuteronomy 9:3)

THOUGHT: God is a JEALOUS God and He is ZEALOUS for you. In the context of giving the ten commandments the statement is made that your Creator is “a jealous God“, and the command given is that you must not esteem nor bow down to any other god in His place (see Exodus 20:3-6 and Deuteronomy 5:7-10). Deuteronomy 4:24 shows God’s jealousy coupled with “consuming fire”, which introduces an entirely new and different thought.

God’s presence and approval and His presence and disapproval were often shown visibly on earth by fire. A few examples of God’s presence and approval are in the pillar of fire guiding and protecting Israel’s wilderness journeys (Exodus 13 & 14), in the fire that came out of God’s presence to consume the sacrifices (Leviticus 9:24; 1 Kings 18:38) and in the tongues of fire falling at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4). A few examples of God’s presence and disapproval are in the destruction of Sodom (Genesis 13:13; 18:20; 19:24), the destruction of the corrupt elders (Numbers 16:1-35) and corrupt priests (Leviticus 10:1-2) and in the final judgment and destruction of the earth (2 Peter 3:10-12).
Fire is can be either a benefit or a curse. It can be used in the home and in industry to leverage great benefits. However, if fire is unchecked or out of control it can create great destruction. If unabated it will continue to burn until it consumes everything in its path. “Our God is a Consuming Fire” – As you worship and submit to the Lord it is of great benefit and blessing to you, but to reject and rebel against Him will ultimately lead to your destruction. God gives you free-will, so the choice is yours, but I urge you to submit your life to Him and allow His fire to warm you, feed you and care for you in ways you have never been cared for before.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, JEALOUS GOD AND CONSUMING FIRE: I submit to You praying that I be consumed by the fire of Your Spirit, Your Love and passion for Your presence. Knowing that You are zealous for me encourages me to come to the fires of purification. Let Your fires purge everything from my life that is not pleasing to You. I renounce the spirit of rebellion over my life and surrender to Your Word, Your Will and Your Way. Open my eyes to see more clearly the path You have carved out for me to walk. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
