GOD’S NATURE, CHARACTER & ATTRIBUTES – An Introduction

SCRIPTURES: Job 11:7-8 Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? 8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? Job 26:14  Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand? (See also Job 37:23; Psalm 145:3; Ecclesiastes 3:11; Isaiah 40:28 Ephesians 1:17-19 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power

THOUGHTS: When you meet a person, you grow to know them better as you observe their behavior and manner in their interactions with you and others. After a while you come to know more about their character and abilities. Likewise, you come to know God better over time by reading His Word and through your relationship with Him in your own life. Over the next several weeks we will explore some of what God has revealed to us all about Himself. Scholarly men and women have written large volumes on these topics. God has been described as having Moral Attributes and Natural Attributes. His attributes have also been divided into Powers versus Personalities and His Greatness versus His Goodness.

He is the Self-Existent, Self-Sufficient, All-Wise, All-Powerful God who chooses to have fellowship and relationship with us. He correctly and skillfully balances His Holiness, Righteousness and Perfection with Love, Patience and Forgiveness, and also with Justice and Mercy combined. We find it extremely difficult to comprehend, yet exciting to explore. I invite you to take this journey as we delve into the Nature, Characteristics and Attributes of the One and Eternal Godhead, as we find in the unity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER: Father God, please open the eyes of my heart that I might see You in Your Holiness, Power, Magnificence and Glory. Give me a fresh look that I may see You and learn more of You. Help me to enhance my knowledge of You and my relationship with You. I desire to grower closer relationship with You as I behold in awe of Your Wonder and Majesty. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

About Pastor Lawrence A. Fox

We believe that along with many others, we are called by Jesus Christ to engage in a world-wide effort to reach those in and out of the Christian world with the message of full salvation and healing in His name. This effort starts in our own hearts through the power of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. It then finds growth and nourishment in the fellowship of the local church and fans out through every believer’s home, in our neighborhoods, with our relatives, in the workplace and in every human interaction that we engage in on this side of eternity. We are excited to be ambassadors for God in bringing His message to a lost and dying world. II Corinthians 5:18-20 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
